cindy_downes_2005Hi! My name is Cindy Downes. I am veteran homeschool mom who educated my two children at home from preschool through twelfth grade. I homeschooled from 1981 through 1985 in Delaware, 1985 through 1988 in Virginia, from 1988 through 1991 in Pennsylvania, and from 1991 through 1994 in Oklahoma where my children graduated.

I've taught homeschool workshops, administrated three homeschool support groups, provided consulting services to homeschoolers until 2003, and served as a trustee for OCHEC (Okahoma Christian Home Educators Consociation). I've been featured on "Good Morning America" (video no longer available), "OETA's Stateline" (Google version) and "Homeschool Talk Radio" as well as in "The Old Schoolhouse Magazine."

In 2007, I went back to college along with my homeschooled daughter, Shelly. I earned my Bachelor's of Science degree in Journalism in December 2009. Today, I'm an independent writer and product reviewer with articles published in iPhone Life Magazine, The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, and other trade magazines. I also write and publish my own educational products.

When I'm not writing, I enjoy reading (I loves mysteries!), attending writer's groups, hiking, biking, cooking, photography, going on "girls' day outs" with my friends, ham radio (K5CED) and traveling with my husband. I also like animals, especially my cats, and I recently started a HAM Radio club called Pink HAMsters.

Although I have a daughter who is a Read/Write/Visual Learner and found schoolwork easy, I also have a son who is a Visual/Kinesthetic Learner which made teaching him a challenge. He was unable to learn in a typical classroom environment and with traditional, fill-in-the blank, multiple-choice textbooks. Through much trial and error, research and prayer, I was able to discover ways of teaching that not only helped him to become a successful student but also encouraged him to develop his own computer graphics business. The results of my homeschool adventures are my websites, Blogs and Facebook pages. On these sites, I include everything I learned when teaching my own two children, as well as what I learned from consulting with others who dealt with problems such teaching multiple children at multiple grade levels, teaching older children while taking care of infants and toddlers, teaching Visual, Kinesthetic and Auditory Learners, and teaching teens who want to start a business or go into the ministry rather than attend college. I continually add to these pages to keep them up-to-date with the best information and learning resources I can find that will help parents of children who are Visual, Kinesthetic, and Auditory Learners or who have one or more of the other problems listed above.

I support myself and my websites by selling my products and by being an affiliate of Amazon.com and Christian Book Distributors. This also keeps my websites ad-free and my product reviews objective.

I love hearing from my readers. Tell me a little about yourself, your children and your homeschool. I like to put testimonials on my website about how my readers have found this website helpful. This is what keeps me doing what I do! Also, if there is anything I can add to this website or if you find errors, please let me know. Cindy's Email.

I hope my websites, Blogs and Facebook pages are as much of a blessing to you as they are fun for me to write!
